Colin T. Penrose, MD

Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon located in Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Zionsville, Indiana.

Colin Penrose, MD specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Duke University and a joint replacement fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Penrose has a medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and two undergraduate degrees from Stanford University.

Colin Penrose, MD, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon serving patients at Midwest Center for Joint Replacement, with two locations in Indianapolis and Bloomington, Indiana. He will also begin seeing patients in Zionsville in early 2025 out of the Central Indiana Orthopedics office. Dr. Penrose was born in Minnesota and grew up in Arizona. He attended Stanford University in California, where he completed two undergraduate degrees in biology and human biology and a minor in economics. He then pursued his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He was awarded AOA honors and selected by the deans as the most outstanding medical student in his graduating class. He remained at the university for his orthopedic surgery residency, then went on to complete a lower extremity adult reconstruction fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Although always drawn to science and medicine, Dr. Penrose’s passion for joint replacement began in college when he had the opportunity to take part in a medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic with a mentor. He continued international medical mission work throughout medical school and residency, returning to the Dominican Republic several times with MOVE Missions and El Salvador with Operation Walk. He currently volunteers his time, expertise, and surgical skill to provide care for patients through the Heart and Soul Clinic in Westfield. Dr. Penrose met Dr. Berend through their mutual connection to Duke Orthopedics and joined the MCJR surgeon team in 2022. Dr. Penrose has published numerous hip and knee arthroplasty book chapters, scientific research articles, and presented his research at local and national conferences. He is dedicated to patient care, research, and education and loves getting to know his patients. In his free time, he enjoys baseball, football, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and coaching youth sports. Dr. Penrose and his wife Elaine, an Olympic silver medalist he met at Stanford, live in Indianapolis with their three children and golden retriever. Dr. Penrose sees patients for hip and knee conditions in Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Zionsville.
