Relief after Four Joint Replacements: Pat Reinhart
Meet Patrick “Pat” Reinhart, a retired Duke Energy employee, Cincinnati Reds fan, and avid pickleballer and golfer. After 40 years of physical labor climbing poles, ladders, and in and out of buckets, Pat’s joints began to take a toll. The repetitive motions of his job wore out his joints, and the pain followed him into retirement. As his hips and knees worsened, Pat knew he needed a solution. Today, after multiple joint replacement surgeries with Dr. Lackey at MCJR, Pat is living without pain and enjoying the activities he loves.
Struggles with Joint Pain
After retiring, the pain in Pat’s hips and knees intensified with simple activities like mowing the lawn or walking.
“I couldn’t perform very well without taking breaks,” Pat shared. “I knew had to do something when couldn’t do what I was used to doing, and I had trouble sleeping at night.”
Pat’s history with joint pain goes back years. Before meeting Dr. Lackey, Pat had already had a hip replacement and four knee surgeries. He had his first knee replacement with Dr. Lackey in 2013, before Midwest Center for Joint Replacement had opened. He was always impressed by Dr. Lackey’s thorough and approachable manner, so when he started to have more knee trouble, he followed Lackey to MCJR.
“Dr. Lackey was very professional, knowledgeable, explained things, and made you feel very comfortable,” Pat recalled.
In the years since he began his treatment at MCJR, Pat has undergone multiple successful joint replacements. These include the replacement of both hips and both knees. In September 2023, Dr. Lackey replaced Pat’s original metal hip, which had begun causing him more harm than good. Just a few months later, in January 2024, Pat had his second hip replaced. Finally, in December 2024, Dr. Lackey performed a knee replacement that has allowed Pat to regain full mobility.

“Any time I had questions or concerns, I would call and they would always return my call the same day,” Pat shared. “I can’t say enough about the doctor and the whole staff. I have appreciated them all very much.”
Pat is grateful for the relief he’s found. The recovery process was quick for his hips, and although his knee recovery took a bit longer, Pat is now back to enjoying the activities he loves.
“The hips were fairly quick and not too painful. I was back to golfing and playing pickleball a couple of months after surgery,” he explained. “I can sleep at night, pain-free. The knee is still a little tender, but it’s only been a few months after surgery. Overall, I feel great.”

If you’re on the fence about seeking joint replacement surgery, Pat has a simple message: “You will know when you have had enough pain and that it’s time to replace.”
“I cannot say enough how pleased I am with Dr. Lackey and would tell anybody whoever asked me that is who I would recommend,” said Pat. “He’s a great surgeon and personable doctor. I don’t even know my joints were replaced; I’m just living pain-free.”
